On calm mornings, the entire balloon field inflates simultaneously—crews spread across the park's 40 acres, laying out envelopes while chase teams position vehicles along the perimeter. The inflation sequence takes roughly 30 minutes from cold fabric to upright envelope, and once the field is vertical, balloons launch in waves based on size and experience level. The largest special-shape balloons often go last. Evening sessions shift the focus from flight to spectacle. The balloon glow begins after sunset on Saturday and Sunday, with tethered balloons firing burners in synchronized intervals to illuminate their envelopes against the dark. Pilots coordinate the glow via radio, creating pulses of light across the field. No launches occur during evening glows—balloons remain anchored, and the display runs for 45 minutes to an hour depending on crowd size and weather.
